Nanilou Tucker Holloway, age 94, and known by many as “Nana” passed away Sunday morning at her residence surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Odyssey Hospice. She was a lifelong resident of Bulloch County and a member of First Baptist Church where she was a member of the Steadfast Sunday School Class. Nanilou was also a member of the Magnolia Garden Club and the Forest Heights Ladies Golf Association where she had a hole in one at the age of 75. Two perfect sayings that the family will always cherish are “There is no place like Nana’s” and “She asks so little and gives so much”.
The family would like to thank the caregivers who spent time with her and for the exceptional care provided every day. A special thanks to Barbara Taylor who has been with the family for over 35 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe Tucker and Ida DeLoach Tucker, and her husband of 62 years, Strickland Holloway.
Survivors include her children, Jean (Bill) Zunkel, Anne (Rodney) Townsend, Strickland (Pamela) Holloway, Jr., and Pamela (Landrum) Hodges; grandchildren, Ashlee Townsend (Ric) Cribb, Ahdina Zunkel (Marc)Romanelli, John Rodney (Connie) Townsend, Stephanie Hodges Kennedy, Strickland Holloway, III, Whitney Holloway (Bill) Wadsen, Smith Hodges (Wes) Pope, Ashton Holloway, Sydney Hodges (Marcus) Kuja; ten great grandchildren; one sister, Leona Tucker Sutton; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will hold a private service on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 with Dr. H. William Perry officiating.
Nanilou, a true “Southern Lady” and a gracious hostess, whose home was open to all, would love for you to join the Holloway family in celebrating her life at home, 415 West Parrish Street on Wednesday from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Kendall Keepsake Foundation (www.kendallkeepsake.org) or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Hodges-Moore Funeral Home of Statesboro is in charge of the arrangements.
