Sewell Allen "Al" Townsend

Al was born in Rome, GA to the late George Ezekiel and Eunice Jones Townsend and was raised in Lafayette, GA, where he attended local schools. After graduating high school, Al joined the United States Air Force, serving during the Vietnam War and received the Purple Heart. He retired from the Air Force after 22 years of service. While in the Air Force, he was stationed in many places in the United States and Thailand. In 1978, he moved to Statesboro and became a member of Eastern Heights Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Jeff Owens Sunday school class. He began working as a sales associate with Western Auto, retiring from there, in 1996, with 18 years of service.

In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by his six half siblings.

Al is survived by his sons, Sewell Allen Townsend, Jr. of Atlanta and Mike W. Townsend and his wife, Susan of Statesboro; daughters, Kimberly G. Brown and her husband, Mark of Garfield and Kristal T. Caldwell of Macon, his twin sister, Jewel Hall of Menlo, GA; sisters, Mozelle Stanfield and Jo Carmon and her husband, Tom all of Lafayette, GA; five grandchildren, Ashton and Caroline Brown; Owen and Sam Caldwell and Browning Townsend.

A gathering of family and friends will be held 1:30 to 3:00 PM Saturday, February 4, 2017 in Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be held 3:30 PM Saturday, February 4, 2017 in Bulloch Memorial Gardens with Reverend Harry Sherrer officiating.
