Alene Jones Barnard

She was born on July 24, 1928, in Forsyth County and was the daughter of the late Charlie Weaver and Mary Norman Jones. She was a member of First Baptist Church for over 50 years and worked at B&J Knits as a bookkeeper until her retirement. She graduated from Forsyth County Schools and Mitchell Community College where she met her husband, Fred Allen Barnard. They were married on May 6, 1951. Fred served as a local CPA and preceded her in death on January 15, 1981.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ira Jones and Bruce Jones of Winston-Salem.

She is survived by her three children, William Barnard and wife, Margaret, and John Barnard and wife, LeAnda, both of Statesville, and Mary B. Frye and husband, Tim, of Harmony; eight grandchildren, Elizabeth Barnard of Statesville, Layne B. Adams and husband, Forrest, of Raleigh, Katherine “Kakki” Barnard of Hickory, Emma Barnard of Statesville, Allen Frye, Michael Frye, Wendy Frye and Matthew Frye, all of Harmony.

Funeral services celebrating Alene’s life will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, February 6, at First Baptist Church on Davie Avenue. The family will receive friends and family immediately following the service in Adams Hall at the church. A private burial will be held for the family.
