Arthur Lowell Mitchell

He was born November 22, 1939, in Iredell County and was the son of the late Arthur Fletcher and Eva Lee Claywell Mitchell. He was retired from Raymer Oil Company after 45 years of service and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was an active member of East Side Baptist Church where he was a member of the Berea Sunday school class and had served as deacon. He was also a member of the Grassy Knob Masonic Lodge #471 and the Statesville Shrine Club. He enjoyed spending time in the mountains with friends at Saddle Ridge Resort. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Mitchell.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Walker Mitchell, whom he married on November 24, 1961; a daughter, Sondra Koenig (fiancé, Eddie Mitchell) of Statesville; a son, Robert L. (Tammy) Mitchell of Union Grove; five grandchildren, Jacob Mitchell, Casey Mitchell, Joshua Koenig, Cole Koenig, and Brooks Koenig; a sister, Lounell (Ken) Grant of Mooresville; his two yorkies, Misty and Jake; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service celebrating Lowell’s life will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, January 9, 2014, at East Side Baptist Church with the Revs. Johnny Bolin, Charles Cook and J.C. Parks officiating. Burial will follow at Grassy Knob Baptist Church Cemetery in Union Grove with Masonic Rites by the Grassy Knob Masonic Lodge #471 and military rites by Harmony American Legion Post 113 burial detail.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM tonight (Wednesday, January 8) at East Side Baptist Church and at other times will receive friends at the residence.
