Barbara Jean Parks

Born in Iredell County on January 13, 1958, she was the daughter of the late Alfred Parks and Novella Williams Parks.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a special friend, John Sherrill.

Barbara dedicated her life to caring for and raising her family. She was a member of Indwelling Spirit Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as Chairman of the Pastor Aide Committee.

Those left to cherish her memory are her loving family, including her partner and companion of 40+ years, Oscar Clark; son, David Parks; daughter, Maria Stevenson; honorary daughters, Sandra Parks and Tara Smyre Hall (Derek Hall); mother-in-law, Cora McDonald; brothers, Alfred (Joette) Parks, Jr., Randy Parks. Terry Poole, Jackie (Janice) Clark, Ronnie McCurty, Marshall McCurty, Joey McDonald, Derrick McDonald and Donald McDonald; sisters, Karen (Frank) Jones, Ann Chambers, Lisa (Jerome) Patterway, Ruth Barber and Ann Bellamy.

She is further survived by her grandchildren, Sharon Stevenson, Camryn Tyler, Dynesty Chambers, Yasir Parks, Alyra Parks, Yahreem Parks, Davonna Smith, Ayden Blackwell, Sean Blackwell and Braylen Blackwell; and her great-grandchildren, Calaya Parks-Porter, Alivia Porter, Mariah Porter, Nadia Porter, Xylus Chambers-Jones, Breasia Stevenson, Amariea Stevenson, Demarcus Stevenson and Caiylee Stevenson and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Friday, April 18, 2025, from 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM, with the funeral service beginning at 1:30 PM at Christian Outreach Ministries, with Pastor Carl Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Belmont Cemetery.
