Barbara Jean Jenkins Sherrill

She was born April 2, 1933, in Statesville and was the daughter of the late L.E. “Bud” and Mary Gibson Jenkins. She was a graduate of Statesville High School Class of 1951, and was a member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church since 1961 where she was active in the building of the church sanctuary. She retired as a teller from Bank of America and worked as a type setter with the Statesville Record and Landmark prior to her banking career. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, knitting, doing crossword puzzles, and working in her flowers.

She is survived by her husband, Riley Kirk Sherrill, whom she married on August 12, 1950; two daughters, Teresa Sherrill (Mark) James and Janine Sherrill (Rodney) Owens, both of Statesville; three grandchildren, Christen Elizabeth James of Statesville, Whitney Diane James of Charlotte, and Benjamin Joseph “B.J.” Owens of Raleigh; a special cousin, Ann Bates of Vienna, VA; and her beloved cat, Boots.

Funeral services celebrating Barbara’s life will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, March 10, 2013, at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dianne Lawhorn officiating. Graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday at Iredell Memorial Gardens.

Neill Pardue, David Pardue, Steve Sherrill, Jimmy Sherrill, Tommy Sherrill, and Johnny Sherrill will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Saturday at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home.
