

She was born August 4, 1929, in Alexander County and was the daughter of the late Thomas Abernathy and Bessie Lee Bailey Watt. She retired from Hunt Brothers, was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church, and enjoyed working her puzzle books.
In addition to herparents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Elaine Hartness; a son-in-law, Ronnie Lee Benge; two sisters, Frances Prevette and Annie Lee Poole; and three brothers, James, Robert, and David Watt.
She is survived by three daughters, Vivian Carol Bustle of Rainelle, WV, Vicky Lee (Raymond) Barr and Betty Jane Benge both of Statesville; two sons, John Marlin (Linda) Myers of Willaochee, GA, and Jerry Joe Myers of Troutman; two sisters, Nancy Jane (Lonnie) Wooten and Peggy O’Neal (Blake) McNeely; a brother, Tommy A. (Doris) Watt all of Statesville; 19 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service celebrating Betty’s life will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, May 29, 2014, at Bethlehem United Methodist Church with the Rev. Olin Isenhour officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 PM Wednesday at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home.
