Betty Jo Ellis Seymore

Betty Jo Ellis Seymore, 86, of Statesville, North Carolina, passed away on January 10, 2026. She was born on March 16, 1939, in Iredell County, to the late Henry Roy Ellis and Myrtle Lorena Thomas Ellis.

She attended Unity High School in Statesville, graduating as salutatorian. She was a devoted member of Logan Presbyterian Church for 37 years, serving as the Senior Choir Secretary, as well as a member of the Social Club and the Presbyterian Women’s Group.

Betty was loving, caring, and enjoyed spending time with her family. She was considered a "best friend" to many, and was the "mother" of the neighborhood. Her home was open to anyone in need. She loved to sing, cook, watch game shows and her "stories".

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wilbert Seymore; her sister, Dorothy Ellis; and two children, Gregory Seymore and Angela Seymore.

Betty is survived by her children, Patricia Bailey Cole (Raymond), Cassandra Dye (Rev. Perry Dye) and Raymond Seymore (Cynthia); her sister, Mildred Ellis; her grandchildren, Shanell Bailey, Lavette Seymore, Dr. Lawanda Rayner (Terrance), Rudolph Seymore (Tamica), Lakisha Freeman (Mario), Derris Bailey (Stephanie), and Patrick Cole; her great-grandchildren, Jaylyn Bailey, Tevin Seymore, Amaree Freeman, Charles Rayner, Keaton Bailey, Drelan Bailey, Zion Seymore, Harper Bailey, Hunter Bailey and Ryleigh Bailey; her great-great-grandchild, Isaiah McKoy; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family will receive friends at Logan Presbyterian Church on Saturday, January 17, 2026, from 1:30 pm to 2:00 pm. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm, with Reverend Olen Bruner officiating. Interment will follow at Logan Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
