

He was born April 5, 1924, in Iredell County and was the son of the late Lee Roy and Mary Suma Shook Campbell. He served as a military police in the U.S. Army during World War II and retired from Gilbert Engineering Company. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church where he was a former deacon, teacher of the Men’s Fellowship Class, member of the church choir, President of the Brotherhood, and served on many committees including the Buildings and Grounds Committee. He enjoyed basketball and was captain of his school team for three years. He also enjoyed gardening and flowers.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Ray Campbell.
He is survived by his wife, Dessie Ostwalt Campbell, whom he married on June 15, 1946; two sisters, Polly (Jack) Carpenter and Doris (Tom) Watt; a brother, William Gary Campbell, all of Statesville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service celebrating Carroll’s life will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, November 22, 2014, at Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe Woodward officiating. Burial will follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens with military honors accorded by the Iredell County Veteran Council Burial Detail.
James Boggs, Andy Munday, Randy Ostwalt, Brad Ostwalt, Joel Elliott, Ronald Moss and Darrell Watt will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday, November 21, 2014, at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home and at other times will be at the residence.
