

She was born September 20, 1957, in Richlands, Virginia, and was the daughter of Okie Keen and the late Carl Junior Vandyke. Prior to her disability retirement, she was a waitress at Fat Boys in Mooresville. She volunteered with her mother in delivering meals with Meals on Wheels. She was a very caring and giving person and as such had chosen to donate her body to science in order to help others.
Diana was survived by a daughter, Mellisa Dawn Shorter (Brian) of Sophia, WV; a son, Chris Brown (Carolyn) of Statesville; five grandchildren, Celina and Ivy Brown of Statesville and Jordan and Micah Shorter of Sophia, WV, and Dustin Shorter of Crab Orchard, WV; her mother and step-father, Okie K. and Larry Pettry of Statesville; three brothers, Carlos “Termite” Vandyke and James “Pee Wee” Vandyke (Sandra), both of Statesville, and David “Red” Vandyke of Troutman; a sister, Kathy Hayes (Rodney) of Statesville; two nieces; four nephews; and her best friends, Brenda Call and Barbara Henkle both of Statesville.
Memorial service celebrating Diana’s life will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday at Troutman Church of God with the Rev. Connor Lambert officiating. The family will speak with friends at the church immediately following the service and will receive friends from 6-8 PM Tuesday at the home of her sister, Kathy Hayes, 167 Watering Trough Road.
