

He was born April 6, 1927, in Alexander County and was the son of the late Durant and Eva Lackey Robertson. He was a graduate of Stony Point High School and retired from West Window Company after 36 years of service. He was a charter member of Yadkin Baptist Church where he served as church treasurer for 49 years, choir director, congregational song leader, and served on numerous other committees. In 2003, he became a member of his childhood church, Pisgah United Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and was a former member of the Hiddenite VFW Post 1000.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death on January 21, 2006, by his wife, Melinda Hager Robertson whom he married on December 24, 1947; and four brothers, Willie, Dewey, Allie and Harlan Robertson.
He is survived by a daughter, Pamela Sparks (Steve) of Statesville; two grandsons, Luke Sparks of Statesville and Jonathan Sparks (Summer) of Williamston, NC; a great-granddaughter, Ella Sparks of Williamston; and a son, Chris Robertson. He was fifth of ten children and survived by five siblings, Thelma Sloan, Harry Lee Robertson, both of Taylorsville, Troy Robertson (Carolyn) of Charlotte, Ruth Fann (Gil) of Swannsboro and Donald Robertson Ann) of Taylorsville; and a sister-in-law, Sarah Cowan Robertson of Statesville.
Funeral services celebrating Edgar’s life will be held at 4:00 PM Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at Pisgah United Methodist Church in Hiddenite with the Rev. Mike Duncan officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery in with military honors being accorded by Iredell County Veterans Council Burial Detail.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 4:00 PM Wednesday at the church prior to the service and prior to the service will be at the daughter’s home, 134 Branchwood Road, Statesville.
