Born on June 27, 1936 in Iredell County, she was the daughter of the late Gaston Lawrence McLelland and Madge Tilley McLelland. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, William McLelland.
Evelyn was a life-time and faithful member of Mountain View United Methodist Church. She spent her career managing the family business, Dowell’s Auto Parts, that was located on Front Street in downtown Statesville. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and canning vegetables, and traveling across America with the love of her life, W.T. Dowell. Most of all, she cherished spending time with her family.
Evelyn is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, “William Thomas “W.T.” Dowell; sons, Brad (Jodi) Dowell and Kim (Karen) Dowell; brothers, Jack (Liza) McLelland, Ron (Paula) McLelland, and Roger (Kathy) McLelland; sisters, Lona Brown, Fran (Jim) King, and Brenda (Tommy) Rumple; special family friend, Eula McLelland; grandchildren, Jennifer ( fiancé, David Morrison) Dowell and Shane (Kelly) Staley; great-grandchildren, Skylar Morrison, Bryson Morrison, and Emma Staley, who will all miss her dearly.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 1, 2019 at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on March 2, 2019 at Mountain View United Methodist Church with Rev. Sarah Fisher officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service in the church cemetery.
