Fred Lee Hildebrand

Mr. Fred Lee Hildebrand, 82, of 8290 Azalea Rd., Sherrills Ford, died December 24, 2012 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Born in Catawba County on August 10, 1930,. he was a son of the late Louis Avery Hildebrand and Mary Elizabeth Josey Hildebrand. Fred was retired from the U. S. Army having participated in the Berlin Air Lift and competitive marksmanship. He also was in service during the Korean and Viet Nam Wars. He was a member of Olivet Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and church secretary and took care of the cemetery for 25 years. He also enjoyed wood working and travel and loved giving gum to the children. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Calvin Lee Hildebrand, a brother, Louis Avery Hildebrand, Jr. and a sister, Mary Frances Henderson. On November 20, 1954, he married the former Shelia (Ann) Gilleland who survives.

Also surviving are a son, John Todd Hildebrand of Sherrills Ford, two daughters, Rose Marie Sipe (J.C.) of Newton and Teresa Lineberger (Tony) of Sherrills Ford. Also surviving are four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Services celebrating Fred's life will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Friday December 28, 2012 at Olivet Baptist Church with Rev. Matt Rummage and Dr. David Mills officiating. He will lie in state at the church for thirty minutes prior to the service and burial will follow in the church cemetery with Full Military Rites presented by the U. S. Army. The family will be assembled at the residence of the deceased and will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 P.M. at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home.
