

He was born into a family of 13 on May 21, 1926, in Iredell County, and was a son of the late Perce and Carrie Murdock McCoy. He was retired from Clark Schwebel (formerly Uniglass Industries) and was a lifelong active member of Knox Chapel United Methodist Church. Over the years he enjoyed riding horses, fishing, flying airplanes, camping, CB radio and gardening.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death on April 13, 2010, by his wife, Jeanette McNeely McCoy whom he married on March 30, 1946; two children, Kevin Lee McCoy and Kimberly D. McCoy; and siblings: Ethel M. Westmoreland, Leona M. McCoy, Nadine M. Horton, Clyde McCoy, Alan McCoy, Robert (Doc) McCoy, Ralph McCoy, Ray Lynn McCoy, Russell McCoy and Parks McCoy.
Survivors include a son, Dale McCoy (Vickie) of Cleveland and a daughter, Marlene M. Pethel (Lane) of Woodbridge, VA; grandchildren, Joshua Beaver (Carla), Cary Jacobson (Matt), Brooke Beaver, and Bradley McCoy; step-grandchildren, Jennifer Novoa and Melissa Pethel; great grandchildren, Hannah, Gage and Brady Beaver, Ethan Jacobson; step great-grandchildren, Logan and Gibson Scearce and Olivia Myers; a brother, Phillip C. McCoy (Carolyn) of Statesville; and a sister, Vivian M. Christy of Taylorsville.
Services celebrating Mr. McCoy's life will be conducted at 4:00 P.M. Monday, April 8, 2013, at Knox Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Draughn officiating. He will lie in state at the church for thirty minutes prior to the service and burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will assemble at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Dale McCoy at 999 Triplett Road, Cleveland and will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Sunday at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home.
