Born on June 6, 1940 in Iredell County, he was the son to the late John and Sarah Myers Whitaker. He owned and managed S. & J. Scale Company until his retirement.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by two sons, Johnny Jr., and Tony Whitaker.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sallie Whitaker; many other loving family members and special friends, Bonnie and Arthur Brown.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 11am in the Chapel at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home with Rev. Leroy England officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood cemetery with full military honors.
Mr. Johnny will lie in state for one hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home.
