He was born on October 10, 1920 in Iredell County, NC to the late Samuel Jarvis Ellis and Ida Mae Harris Ellis. Lee served in the U.S. Army, 322 Infantry Division, during WW II. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign with 2 Bronze Stars and several other ribbons and awards. Lee graduated from NC State University in 1954, earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. He then moved to Chattanooga and his entire career was with TVA. He was a long time member of First Centenary United Methodist Church. He enjoyed square dancing, farming and sports.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Pauline Malone Ellis; second wife, Mary Owen Eidson Ellis; his siblings, Brennie Ellis Morrison, John Leonard Ellis, Jacob Bleonard Ellis, Mary Isabell Ellis Pierce and Thomas Ray Ellis and a nephew, Roger Morrison.
Survivors include his sister-in-law, Rachel Stikeleather Ellis, Stony Point, NC; his nephews, Carol Lynn (Desi) Ellis, Stony Point, NC and Thomas Ellis, Mooresville, NC and his nieces, Janet Ellis (Steve) Wooten and Sandra Ellis Stafford, both of Statesville, NC.
A funeral service will be held at 2 PM Sunday, October 7, at Heritage Funeral Home Chapel in Chattanooga, TN.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 in the Bethlehem United Methodist Church Cemetery in Statesville at 3pm with Military honors and Rev. Michael Flack and Olin Isenhour officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the First Centenary UMC, 419 McCallie Avenue, Chattanooga, TN 37402 or to Hospice of Chattanooga, 4411 Oakwood Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37416.
