Nilan "Jim" James Puckett

Nilan James Puckett, 84, of Mooresville, North Carolina, passed away on December 9, 2025, at Duke Lake Norman Medical Center. A native of Christian County, Illinois, he was the son of the late Nyle Puckett and Irene Davis Puckett. He was preceded in death by his brother, Nyle Puckett Jr.

Jim dedicated 47 years of service to Illinois Power, retiring after a long and successful career. Following his retirement, he and his wife, Linda, moved to Punta Gorda, Florida. In time, they relocated once more to Mooresville, North Carolina, to be closer to family.

A devoted family man, Jim enjoyed many pastimes, including watching sports, playing cards and board games, and watching classic TV shows and movies, such as Bonanza and Gunsmoke. His love for family and tradition was central to his life.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Linda Hauck Puckett; their children, Michael J. Puckett, Jamie L. Puckett, and Kim P. O'Tuel; his sister, Nila Kay Puckett; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made in Jim’s memory to the Arthritis Foundation, 1355 Peachtree St NE, STE 600, Atlanta, GA 30309. At this time, no memorial services are scheduled.
