

She was born November 3, 1937, in Iredell County and was the daughter of the late James “Jim” Charles and Mildred Martin Miller. She was a beautician and worked with Cut-N-Curl and Paulette’s Beauty Bazaar. After retirement, she worked for several years at J.R.’s Warehouse. In her early years, she attended Rose Chapel United Methodist Church and later became a member of Faith Baptist Church. She was a loving mother and Granny who enjoyed crocheting baby blankets and afghans.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Richard Carpenter; a son, Steven Richard Carpenter; a grandson, Bryan Tyler Lucas; and a brother, Charles Miller.
She was survived by a daughter, Melanie Carpenter Lucas (Bryan) of Statesville; a granddaughter, “her favorite little girl,” Emma Sue Lucas, of Statesville; a sister, Carolyn Miller Black (L.A.) of Statesville; two brothers, Julian Miller of Newport News, VA, and Michael Miller (Libby) of Statesville; and several loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral services celebrating Norma’s life will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, July 16, 2012, at Faith Baptist Church with the Rev. Daniel Crawley and the Rev. Ralph Lepley officiating. The body will lie in state thirty minutes prior to the funeral hour and burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Sunday at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home and at other times will be at the residence.
