Phyllis Ilean Campbell Barker

Mrs. Phyllis Campbell Barker, 87, formerly of Statesville, died February 25, 2014 at Asbury Care Center in Charlotte. Born in Cairo, Illinois on October 10, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Sydney Joshua Campbell and Iva McKee Campbell. Phyllis ws a retired Chaplain from Davis Regional Medical Center in Statesville. She was a graduate of Asbury College in Wilmore, Kentucky and was a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church. She enjoyed painting, sewing, music, was a voice major in college, directed choirs and was an accomplished pianist.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Allen Barker who died on March 23, 1996.

Survivors include two sons, Richard Allen Barker (Gerry) of Charlotte and Douglas Dean Barker of High Point, a brother, Sydney Campbell (Sharon) of Wilmore, Ky., two sisters, Bernice Sutherland of Florida and Carol Pressley (Grafton) of Georgia, along with 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Private graveside services will be held on Sunday at Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. James Donald Preslar officiating. Condolences may be sent online to the family at www.bunchjohnsonfuneralhome.com.
