

Born September 19, 1937 in Iredell County, he was the son of the late William Ray Cartner, Sr. and Nellie Jones Cartner.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Richard “Ricky” Cartner, Jr.; a sister, Betty Jane Cartner Michael and two brothers, William Ray Cartner, Jr. “Pap” and Robert Eugene Cartner “Gene”.
Mr. Cartner graduated from Harmony High School and also from Draughn’s School of Business in Winston-Salem. He retired from Holly Farms as a Rendering Coordinator and was a member of Clarksbury United Methodist Church.
Sonny had a passion for doing for others. He loved his family and had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren, nieces, nephews and great-nephews. Each one was special in their own way , and the memories they shared will continue to live on in their hearts.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marsha Deal Cartner of the home; daughter, Kimberly Carol Cartner of Raleigh; two sons, Timothy Carson Clendenin and Danny Lee Clendenin, both of Mocksville; grandchildren, Allison Victoria Cartner, Ava Danielle Cartner, Taylor Michelle Clendenin and Casey Marie Clendenin; brother, Kenneth Perry Cartner, Sr. “Shorty”; and sisters, Elton Cartner Wright, Claire Cartner Foster, Bobbie Jo Cartner Sees and Tommye Cartner Campbell; nieces, nephews and great-nephews. The family would like to thank Rick Hyatt for his devotion to Sonny and family.
The family will receive friends Thursday, June 11, 2015 from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home with the funeral service following at 2:00 PM in the Westmoreland Chapel with Rev. Donnie Durham officiating. Burial will follow in the Clarksbury United Methodist Church Cemetery.
