

He was born May 31, 1940, in Hickory and was the son of the late Luther Willard “Bill” and Katherine “Kat” Deal Cline. He graduated from St. Stephens High School in Hickory and a medically discharged veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He worked as a computer analyst for R.J. Reynolds and Bali and retired from Sara Lee as a Senior Computer Programmer Analyst. He was a member of New Bethany Baptist Church and was an avid Carolina Tar Heel and Atlanta Braves fan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Erma Cline Hollar and Kay Cline Huffman.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Smith Cline, whom he married on June 15, 1974; four children, Sidney Robert “Bobby” (Shannon) Cline II, Michael Marvin Cline, and Camilla Lynn (Pete) Lortz, all of Hickory, and Mark (Sandi) Kimel of Denver; a granddaughter, Stephanie Whitehouse of Hickory; a sister, Pat C. (Harley) Parnell of Roswell, NM; a brother, Howard (Pat) Cline of Denver; his beloved black lab, Tucker; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service celebrating Sidney’s life will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, September 21, 2014, at New Bethany Baptist Church with the Revs. Bill Mason and Henry Cook officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Medford “Ham” Smith, Stewart Smith, Brad Smith, Scott Brown, Steven Cook and 1st Sgt. Mark Little will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 PM Saturday, September 20, at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home.
