Dortha Pheba “Dottie” Brown, 93, of Staunton passed away Sunday, January 7, 2018 at Shenandoah Nursing Home. Born June 9, 1924 in Spring Hill, VA, she was the daughter of the late John Cleveland and Anna (Brake) Kiser. Dottie enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening and canning the food she grew from her garden. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell David Brown; son-in-law, Larry Dudley; brothers, Henry, Albert, Wade and John Kiser; sister, Nellie Hunter. Survivors include her loving children, Judy Brown Armstrong and husband, William of Churchville, Arnold Lee Brown and wife, Jeanne of Staunton, Kay Brown Dudley of Mt. Sidney and Linda Brown Hodge and husband, Eugene of Staunton; sister, Betty Arey of Staunton; grandchildren, David Armstrong and wife, Shawna, James Brown and wife, Barbara, Lisa Dudley, Amanda Surratt and husband, Matt and Mark Hodge and wife, Chloe; great grandchildren, Cheyenne, Dillin and Brayden Armstrong, Taylor Brown, Jonathan Dudley and Maddox Surratt; sister-in-law, Thelma Brown and her three sons; as well as a number of nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at the Staunton Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 18 W. Frederick St., with the Rev. Sarah Locke officiating. Burial will follow in Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery, Mt. Sidney. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at the funeral home.
