John Alvin Keeter, Sr., 94, of Staunton and formerly of Portsmouth passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at King’s Daughters’ Nursing Home.
He was born October 11, 1916 in Merry Hill, NC, son of the late John Washington and Ella Castellow Keeter.
Mr. Keeter was a charter member of Green Lakes Baptist Church in Portsmouth, an Army veteran of World War II and was an avid fisherman. He was retired from N.N.S.Y. with 31 years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Geraldine Ward Keeter; one son, John A. Keeter, Jr. and his wife, Deborah of Havelock, NC; one daughter, Beth Blackmer and her husband Eugene of Staunton; two grandchildren, Laura Beth Garner and her husband, Matt and Leigh Anne Carter and her husband, Andrew; one great-grandson, Theran Garner; and a brother, Fred Keeter and his wife, Lois of Edenton, NC.
A graveside service will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Saturday, May 21, 2011 at Olive Branch Cemetery in Portsmouth with Dr. Dwight Buchholz officiating.
