Nécrologie de Sylvia Lynn Honke
It is with great sadness that the family of Sylvia Lynn Honke announces her passing on Friday, July 27, 2018, at the age of 72. Sylvia was born on September 6, 1945, in Denver, Colorado, to Martin T. Honke, Jr. and Mary (Wofford) Honke. Sylvia grew up in Little Rock, Arkansas. She fell in love with baseball watching the Arkansas Travelers baseball team. In June 1970 she received a Bachelor of Arts from Vassar College. Early in her career she worked for Vassar College. Sylvia completed a Masters in Theoretical Math and a Masters in Education at the University of Virginia. She taught mathematics at secondary schools in Charlottesville and Waynesboro, Virginia. For much of her professional life she worked as an Instructor in mathematics for the Virginia Community College System at Lord Fairfax and at Blue Ridge. Sylvia enjoyed teaching and tutoring, spending countless hours helping students, friends and relatives improve their math skills. Bird watching occupied her for years when she was able. She loved baseball and avidly supported the Waynesboro Generals in all ways she could, including announcing and keeping statistics for the team and hosting players. Sylvia will be lovingly remembered by her brother, Paul Martin Honke and his wife Ruth (Salter) Honke; her niece Jessica Lee Kwasny and her husband Brian Edward Kwasny, her nephew, Mark Salter Honke, her great nieces Mollie Honke and Madaline Kwasny and her great nephew, Jackson Kwasny. In addition, she will be lovingly remembered by her great friend and colleague Jenna Konizer. Memorial donations may be made to the YuLee R.
