On May 7, 1941, she was born minutes after her beloved identical twin Molly in Sand Gap, Kentucky. She was an authentic Coal Miner’s Daughter and while growing up was one of the locally well-known “Lloyd Girls” who (in order) are Geraldine, Claudine, Stella, Lucille, Betty, Molly, Dolly, Brenda, and Patty. All but Brenda and Patty have preceded Dolly in death. Their now-deceased parents were Guy and Elizabeth Lloyd. On July 2, 1960, Dolly married Richard Pruim, who preceded her in death in 1992.
Surviving her are her and Richard’s three children: David Pruim, Cheryl (Chuck) Karl, and Gail (George) Mitchell. She has six grandchildren: Amy (Ryan) Bouwman, Chuck (fiance Bridget) Karl, Erin Mitchell, Anna (Alton) Luder, Bailey Mitchell, Grace Mitchell, and one great-grandchild Amanda Bouwman.
Professionally Dolly was a hairdresser by trade owning a beauty shop with her sister Molly and then doing hair out of her home shop for decades. She has worshiped God at Oak Lawn Bible Church for many years where she made and held dear numerous cherished friends.
Dolly was friendly to all and if you talked to her for any significant length of time you’d likely hear how important that her coming to know, love, and trust Jesus Christ as a young woman was for her life. She’s has said often and with certainty that there is no way she could have lived as long as she had without Him, crediting God completely with turning her life in the right direction and helping her thrive in good times and persevere through its trials.
Her positive spirit and attitude about life will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her while she was here.
A memorial service officiated by Pastor Rob Wheeler will be held at Oak Lawn Bible Church on Saturday, February 26 at 11:30AM. Memorials may be made to Oak Lawn Bible Church.
