Mrs. Leora Tun, born on August 12, 1932 in Naalehu, Hawaii to the late Kayono Koike and the late Tsuneo Koike, passed away at age 93 on April 19, 2026 in Owensboro, Kentucky. She graduated from the University of Hawaii with a bachelor’s degree in high school English education. She taught English at Ka’u High School before attending graduate school at Wheaton College working toward a masters degree in Christian Education. As a requirement for her degree, Leora was assigned to teach at Chinese Christian Union Church where her future husband, Roy Tun was the Sunday School superintendent and who provided transportation to and from church for the Wheaton students. Roy and Leora married on August 6, 1960 at Kalihi Union Church in Hawaii. Then returned to work and raise their family in Chicago as well as help plant Faith Bible Church with Pastor David Woo. Leora worked as a substitute teacher at Midwestern Christian Academy while her children attended school there. After earning her special education certificate she taught physically disabled children at Hanson Park Elementary School (a Chicago Public School). She retired from teaching in 1993 then moved to Orlando in 2000 where she and Roy ministered to and supported thousands of Disney interns from around the world and introduced them to the Gospel. She expressed God’s love to them in various acts of service and hospitality. Leora and Roy eventually partnered with Agape Source, a new organization with the same vision, ministry, and passion to share the Gospel as they had. After Roy’s death, Leora moved to an assisted living center in Owensboro, Kentucky to be close to her daughter, Lyn, in 2021. She loved participating in all the activities there as well as attending Bellevue Baptist Church and lots of family activities.
Leora was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Tun, brothers, Arthur Koike, and Pierson Koike (Betsy). Leora is survived by her son, Jonathan Tun (Kathy); daughters Lynette Martin (Bill) and Sharon Kenmotsu (Steve); brothers Will Koike (Miyo), Lyman Koike (Geri); sisters Sylvia Koike, Lynne Uchida (Vernon), Mae Iwamoto (Wes); grandchildren Jaquie Kos (Jordan), Nathaniel Martin (Haleigh), Keanu Tun, Erin Duvall (Cameron), Kyle Kenmotsu, Jada Tun, Daniel Martin (Leigha), Abigail Martin, and Jenna Kenmotsu; many dearly loved nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews, and too numerous to count spiritual children.
