

Aletha Fay Martin (Doogie) passed away peacefully in her bed at Benton Village in Stockbridge Georgia where she had been in residents for the past 6 years on Sunday, September 11, 2016. She was 94 years old.
Doogie was born on July 15, 1922 in Buford, Georgia to her parents, Lewis Clifford Bennett and Argia O’Fay Bennett. She was the oldest of 4 children. Her younger siblings were Charlotte, Mildred and Clifford Jr. She lived most of her early life in Atlanta Georgia where she met and married her husband of 21 years, Raymond Edward Martin. She was a mother of three. Sandra Fay, Raymond Edward Jr., and Stephen Carl Martin. Doogie worked as homemaker and mother until the death of her husband in 1964. She then went to work at D.C.Heath publishing company which later lead to a secretarial position with DeKalb County Board of Education. She retired in 1984 and spent her remaining years loving life and enjoying her family and friends.
Doogie had 5 Grandchildren, Marty, Hope, Hannah, Tara and Jenna, 9 Great Grandchildren, Cody, Kaitlyn, Hannah, John, Jared, Luke, June, Eli and Trevor, 2 Step Great Grandchildren, Trinity and Grace and 3 Great Great Grandchildren, Brystal, Landyn and Emersyn. She is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, her sisters, Charlotte and Mildred and her Grand daughter Hannah.
Doogie’s services will be held at Horis A. Ward Fairview Chapel, 376 Fairview Road, Stockbridge, Georgia 30281. Visitation will be on September 13th’ Tuesday evening from 6:00 – 8:00pm and on September 14th Wednesday morning from 10:00 – 11:00am. Funeral service will be Wednesday, September 14th at 11:00am with a “Celebration of Life” luncheon afterward for family and close friends. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery, 2284 Candler Road, Decatur, Georgia 30032 immediately following the luncheon.
