
Daniel lived a life marked by devotion, service, and quiet strength. A lifelong member of Mt. Zion–St. Luke Lutheran Church, he valued faith, family, education, and duty. He graduated from the University of North Georgia Military College with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and later earned master’s degrees from Pepperdine University and Boston University.
Daniel proudly served his country in the United States Army, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in July 1989 after nearly 24 years of distinguished service. His military career included service in Vietnam, as well as important assignments involving the Nike and Patriot missile defense systems. Following his retirement from the Army, Daniel continued his commitment to public service with the Georgia Department of Corrections, where he eventually served as Deputy Director of the Budget Office before retiring in 2006.
Those who knew Daniel will remember him as a serious, disciplined, and intelligent man with a deep sense of responsibility. He was steady, dependable, and devoted to caring for the people around him. Throughout his life, he provided for and supported many, offering strength and stability to those who depended on him. He enjoyed watching football and baseball, and he found meaning in the simple, lasting joys of family, service, and commitment.
Daniel leaves behind a legacy of dedication, perseverance, and love. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him and remembered with gratitude by those whose lives he touched.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Shirley Floyd Harvill; his children, Daniel O. Harvill III and his wife, Petal, of Boca Raton, Florida, Eric Harvill and his wife, Marimar, of Cumming, Georgia, Ryan Harvill and his wife, Bernadette, of Canton, Georgia, Todd Babb and his wife, Cheryl, of Monticello, Georgia, and Tammy Babb of Jonesboro, Georgia; his grandchildren, Mac, Jax, Ethan, Nora, Mitchell, Cole, Jacqueline, Brian, and Taylor; his great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Ellie, and Cody; his sister, Crystal and her husband Martin Pinsky; and his brother, Andrew and his wife Carla Harvill.
Visitation will be held at Horis A. Ward - Fairview Chapel, 376 Fairview Rd, Stockbridge, Georgia 30281, on June 3, 2026, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.
A Funeral Service will take place at Horis A. Ward - Fairview Chapel, 376 Fairview Rd, Stockbridge, Georgia 30281, on June 3, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm.
A Committal Service will follow at Fairview Memorial Gardens, 164 Fairview Rd, Stockbridge, GA 30281, US, on June 3, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 1:15 pm.
