Darryl David Ceravolo, 67, of Stockbridge, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, October 31, 2020 at Piedmont Henry Hospital due to complications from COVID-19 following a long battle with Multiple Systems Atrophy (Parkinson’s Plus) and dementia.
Born in Kenner, Louisiana, to the late Joseph and Frances Ceravolo, Darryl was the boisterous and funny fourth of five brothers. Prior to the family’s move to Tucker, Georgia, his early years were spent in Birmingham, Alabama, and the greater New Orleans area.
During his youth, Darryl developed a passion for music, playing guitar, bass, and piano and singing and composing. Joining high school friends and others in a number of high school, semi-professional, and professional bands, Darryl loved entertaining and sharing music with family and friends.
Darryl’s professional calling as a police officer and public servant led to tenures at the DeKalb County Sheriff’s office, City of Doraville Police Department, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, and at Stone Mountain Park. He served with honor and professionalism, earning accolades and recognitions throughout his career.
Darryl endured debilitating illness and subsequent dementia, but with his signature wit and light-hearted personality, he never lost his sense of humor. His frequent jokes about “flying to London to record with Paul at Abbey Road and taking his helicopter to Radio Shack” entertained and enchanted his loved ones during this most difficult of journeys.
Darryl is survived by his wife of 38 years, Donna Williams Ceravolo; three children, Anthony (Anna) Ceravolo of Royston, Georgia, Annamarie Ceravolo of Stockbridge, Georgia and Angela (Tyler) Stone of Hampton, Georgia; one adored grandson, Spencer Stone; brothers, Joseph (Suzanne), Ronald (Sue), Larry (Lynne) and Mark (Gary James); his extended family of brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and cherished co-workers.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Darryl’s memory may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
A Graveside Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at 11:00AM in Evergreen Memorial Park, 3655 Atlanta Highway, Athens, Georgia 30606.
