Dollene Frances Walker was born on November 18th, 1934 to Bammer Davidson and Carter Walker in Idabel, Oklahoma. Dollene is the eighth of nine children. She was affectionately nicknamed “Scooter” because she wouldn’t crawl as a baby- only scoot around.
The family moved from Oklahoma to Albuquerque during the Dust Bowl Migration in the early 1940s. From a young age, she was known for her caring nature and having a smile that would light up any room.
She graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1952 and casually joined a friend at an interview, where she ended up getting the job as a switchboard operator herself. She dedicated 25 years of service to Mountain Bell where she retired in Management. Never content being idle, she later filled her time working at the New Mexico State Fair, as volunteer poll worker, and at multiple Costco Wholesale locations, where she developed many cherished friendships.
At twenty, she met James Posey, the love of her life. They were married October 12th, 1958. Papa Carter helped to construct the famous house on Candelaria, propelling them to be one of the first Black families on the street despite segregation efforts. Together, they built a beautiful home filled with the warmth and laughter of family and friends that became a staple part of the community. They raised three daughters- Sharon, Pamela, and Nikkole, and were actively involved in supporting their school activities, practices, and track meets.
Personally, Dollene was an avid dancer and sports fan. She loved staying active through Jazzercize, mall walking, and other activities. She enjoyed travelling and spending time with friends and neighbors that became family, including Marcellus and Carolyn Stamps and William “Moe” and Debra Moore. She loved to shop the boutiques and talk on the phone with friends and sister Ella, fondly known as Choicey. The Posey’s were socialites and loved to dress, party, and entertain in their home. Despite the hustle and bustle, crossword puzzles and word searches, paired with a sweet treat and strong cup of coffee or Pepsi were staple parts of her daily routine.
Dollene and James relocated to Georgia in 2004 to be closer to their children and grandchildren and made the Brenleigh Park neighborhood in Stockbridge, Georgia their final home as one of the first families to settle into the community.
Following the passing of James in 2021, she was diagnosed with dementia and was cared for by the daughters and grandchildren with the support of Shawnie, Jackie and Southern Grace Hospice, who helped the family carry her to her final resting place. She passed on of natural causes comfortably in her home, met at the heavenly gates by Jesus on April 16, 2026.
Dollene’s kindness, wit, unwavering dedication to her family is legendary and will continue to inspire us for many generations to come. She is survived by her three daughters, nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews she adored. She joins her husband, parents, siblings, and granddaughter in heaven.
Visitation of Family and Friends will be held at Horis A. Ward - Fairview Chapel | 376 Fairview Road Stockbridge, Georgia 30281, on April 27, 2026 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A celebration of her life will also take place at Fairview Chapel, beginning at 1:00 pm.
