Dorethea was born to the late Cordelia Francis Dorsey and James Dorsey on February 11,1950 in the state of New York. She was the fourth of eight siblings – six boys and two girls and the mother of four children – three girls and one boy. Dorethea went by the nickname “Doris” growing up. She graduated from cosmetology school and became a licensed beautician where she enjoyed flourishing the beauty of her clients. Doris was a very vocal person and used her gift to help others personally and professionally. She became a social worker, counselor, and foster parent. Additionally, she became a leader in her community - Marcus Garvey Village where she touched many lives and advocated for multiple programs for children and adults, mentored neighbors and was actively involved to keep the neighborhood safe.
In Marcus Garvey Village, Doris met James Richardson who asked for her hand in marriage. They relocated to Georgia and had an amazing union for 22 years. They were a team personally and professionally. This dual became an interstate truck driving team until retirement. When speaking to the couple, you knew they had a passion for their career. Additionally, you learned trucker’s lingo. “Hey, what’s your 20?” 😊
On October 29, 2022, Dorethea passed away and is survived by her loving husband, James Richardson; brothers, Michael Dorsey (Allison) & Calvin Dorsey; two daughters, Nadina and Danien Peterson; six grandkids Trayvaughn & Tajmell Speights, Anthony & Taariik Brett, DaNaysha & DaNiyah LaSane; four great grandkids Trayvaughn II, Terrell & Triniti Speights and Na’Jai Clark. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
The key things that will be remembered by most about Doris is her love for big dogs, interesting conversations, and her “I don’t take no stuff” attitude! When you need one of those conversations, just look in the mirror and think – What would Doris say?
Doris, you will be missed! Love you forever!
A celebration of life memorial service will be held for Dorethea on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Horis A. Ward - Fairview Chapel | 376 Fairview Road Stockbridge, Georgia 30281.
