

Edwin E. Kelly, 92, of Stockbridge died Thursday, August 14, 2014. Mr. Kelly was born August 18, 1921 in Panthersville, Georgia, where he was raised. He was one of seven children of Mittie Lou and Lester Kelly, and was a lifelong member of Mount Carmel Christian Church. Ed graduated from Southwest DeKalb High School in 1939, as one of a class of 27 seniors. He went on to serve his country in the United States Army during World War II from August 14, 1942 until September 22, 1945. He was honorably discharged and received several medals of honor. Upon discharge from the United States Army, he married his wife of 67 years, Jean Sprayberry Kelly. He attended and graduated from the University of Georgia, with a degree in Forestry. Jean and Ed were married in 1947, built a loving home together and had five sons. Two of which have preceded Ed in death, Don and Mike Kelly.
He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Jean, his second son, Ronnie and daughter-in-law, Nan. His fourth son, Charles (P-Nut)and daughter-in-law, Sherry. His fifth son, Jeff and daughter-in-law, Kelly. Ed and Jean have six grandchildren, Kim (Kevin) Phillips, Carie Kelly, Scott (Natasha) Kelly, Kristi (Brandon)Dow, Kyle(Tiffany) Kelly, Ross Kelly and Cameron (Alicia) Kelly. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Drew, Jack, and Kendal. He was preceded in death by his parents and five
of his siblings. He is survived by his sister Betty Jane Adamson, and a very large and loving family who will miss him greatly. Ed was an avid sports fan, and especially enjoyed watching the Georgia Bulldogs. He was a member of the Senior Golfers of Atlanta and played golf and worked as an FHA appraiser into his eighties, when neuropathy in his legs made him unable to stand and walk comfortably. Until several years ago, he and Jean attended the reunions held all over the United States with the men
he served with in the United States Army. Even after he was unable to play golf, he rode in a golf cart and watched his sons and friends play golf on Saturdays. Always able and happy to share a story or joke, a fine and wonderful Christian man , full of love and laughter, Ed will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
The family will receive visitors at Horis A. Ward Fairview Chapel from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 16th, 2014. The funeral will be held in the chapel of Horis A. Ward on Sunday, August 17, 2014, at 3 p.m. Burial will follow at Fairview Memorial Gardens.
