Inez Palmer was born in Tweedside, Clarendon, Jamaica, West Indies on June 10, 1936 to Wilhelmina and Charles Bolt. She was educated in the Jamaican school system and later migrated to England and eventually to the United States.
Inez moved from Tweedside to Kingston, Jamaica at the age of eighteen to pursue her dreams and her passion for cooking and baking. While in Kingston, she owned a shop/restaurant.
Inez moved from Jamaica to England in 1961, where she worked as an assembly factory worker. In early 1971, she met the love of her life David Palmer in Birmingham, England at a church event. They would eventually migrate to the United States, later in 1971 and settled in Brooklyn, New York. Inez and David married on February 18, 1978. Together, they joined the Mount Zion Church of God 7th Day in 1980. Inez was instrumental in the food ministry of the church wherein many had the privilege of tasting her many dishes, one of which was her famous carrot cake and also made many strides in the fund raising ventures for
the church. She was a dedicated and active member of the Mount Zion
Church of God 7th Day, for 18 years, until she joined the Beulah Church
of God 7th Day in 1998 where she worked willingly and tirelessly in the
fund raising efforts.
In 1986, Inez moved to Jersey City, New Jersey where she lived for twenty years. She would later retire and move to Florida in 2005 and then to Georgia in 2006 where she resided until her untimely passing on November 18, 2013 at Nyack Hospital in Nyack, NY.
While in the United States, Inez worked tirelessly as a homemaker from the late 1970s until the early 2000s. The fruits of her labor were evident in the many family members that migrated to the United States. She took great joy and pride in seeing the successes of all she was able to help.
In addition to being a homemaker, Inez was a self-taught cook and baker. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend who enjoyed cooking, baking and spending time with her immediate and extended family. She was affectionately called “Mama Dass” as she was a second mother to many people.
