Alvin was born on October 8, 1939, in Pickens County Georgia. Shortly after, his parents, Walter and Amanda along with his sister, Mary Nell, moved to Maryville, Tennessee where he grew up. After graduating high school, he joined the United States Army. After his time in the military, he moved to Morrow, Georgia and went to work for Knox Glass, where he worked until his retirement.
He is survived by several cousins, and many loving friends.
Alvin, as everyone called him (except when he was in the Army), could be described by one very short word - nice. Oxford English Dictionary defines the term nice as pleasant, agreeable, satisfactory, kind and good-natured. Any one of those adjectives could describe Alvin, but it would take all of those, and several words that are not in that definition to describe just how "nice" he really was. If there is such a thing in one's family as a "nice gene", Alvin got ours.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday July 13, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens in Forest Park, Georgia.
The family would like to thank all those that expressed their condolences and especially those at Golden Crest and Southern Grace whose care, help, support, and Christian love was shown for such a long time.
