

He was born at Grady Hospital in Fulton County Georgia on October 4, 1941. He joined the Navy on October 13, 1958 where he served in both the Quemoy-Matsu war in 1959 and the Vietnam War in 1967.

With 30 years of active and inactive service, he retired from the U.S. Military on May 1, 1988. After his retirement from the service he began a career as a Medical Property Manager for Meadows and Ohley, in which he received his covenant “Murray Award” named in his honor for his outstanding service and commitment . This Award is given annually to outstanding managers. He retired from Meadows and Ohley in October of 2011.
Jerry was also an active Race Fan and enjoyed his time watching his favorite Racer, Dale Earnhardt #3 and attending races with his brothers and their sons; along with driving his 1940 Ford Deuce Coupe.
He was a member of the Yokosuka Lodge (Mason) , Veterans of Foreign Wars, Fleet Reserve Association, American Legion and Disabled American Veterans.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Mary “Estelle” Murray; step son Phil Owens (Donna), daughters Penny Garland (Jack), Robin Johnson (Jon), Holly Murray; brother Seawood Murray (Ann), Richard Murray (Linda) and Mark Murray (Lisa); and a number of grandchildren and great grand children.
He was preceded in death by one son Jerry J. Murray Jr (Jay), step son Stanley Owens, parents Seawood Murray and Winona Murray; brother James Randolph Murray (BO), sister Patricia Dianne Lowery, and sister-in-law Loretta Entrikin.
A visitation of family and friends will be held for Jerry on Friday, April 8, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Horis A. Ward Funeral Home - Fairview Chapel | 376 Fairview Road Stockbridge, Georgia 30281. A celebration of life will occur immediately afterwards in Ward's Chapel. Services will conclude with graveside military honors and committal at Fairview Memorial Gardens | 164 Fairview Road Stockbridge, Georgia 30281.
