Leon Douglas Maddox was born October 16, 1934, in Porterdale, Georgia, to LC and Lena Maddox. He passed away Thursday, October 3, 2024, at the age of 89. He is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Fred and Charles Maddox, and his sister, Joanne Maddox Guest.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Sybil Geraldine Maddox of Covington; daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Shawn Stanley, Palm Coast, Florida; brother and sister-in-law, Stephen and Vicky Maddox, Idyllwild, California; and sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Rick Clark, Jackson, Georgia. Leon has three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Leon worked at several companies over his lifetime, most recently at Sam’s Club as a deli clerk and as a door checker. Everyone loved Mr. Leon and looked forward to always catching up with him on their mutual interests. He “re-retired” in 2020.
Leon was a talented musician, playing several instruments, and was an excellent singer. He was a successful self taught artist and sold many of his paintings over the years. He loved traveling, fishing, and football and took great pride in his beautiful home and lawn. He loved his family fiercely and was the epitome of what it means to be a faithful, loving husband; a supportive and loving big brother; the always responsible oldest child; and loving father to his only child. He was a great conversationalist, highly intelligent, an encourager. He was loved by so many family and friends, and he will be sorely missed.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Horis A. Ward Funeral Home—Fairview Chapel | 376 Fairview Road, Stockbridge, GA 30281.
