Minnie Parlee McCreary

Minnie was born on February 13, 1932, in Trion, GA. She was one of four children born to Grace and Elijah Itson. The family lived in Trion and other parts of Northwest Georgia before finally settling in East Point, GA. She attended Roosevelt High School in East Point but had to quit after the eighth grade to go to work to help support the family.

Minnie married Everett “Lamar” McCreary in 1953. They had two sons, Michael and David. They moved to Birmingham in 1962 but she and the children returned to Atlanta in 1973 after Minnie’s divorce.

Upon her return to Atlanta, she worked at National Data Corporation from 1973 until 1981. After Minnie’s stepfather “Howard” passed away, her mother asked her to move in with her. Minnie lived with her mother from 1982 until her mother’s death in 2000. She then moved to Christian City Senior Living in Union City, GA.

After suffering a heart attack and stroke in 2006, Minnie entered a waiting list for a senior apartment complex in Cartersville, GA to be closer to family. She moved there in 2009. Unfortunately, Minnie would only live there 5 years before suffering another stroke and being diagnosed with aFib and Vascular Dementia. In 2014 she was forced to give up her apartment and move in with her son Michael.

Over the next 9 years Minnie’s health declined, and she was placed in the memory care unit at Winkler Court Rehabilitation Center in Fort Myers, FL.

Minnie will be remembered for her deep love, care, and devotion for her family and friends, but especially to her sons, Michael and David. She attended church when she was able, read the Bible, and loved the Lord.

She is preceded in death by her son David, mother Grace, stepfather Howard, sister Juanita, and brother Emmett.

A visitation of family and friends will be held for Minnie on Monday, October 16, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Horis A. Ward Funeral Home - Fairview Chapel | 376 Fairview Road Stockbridge, Georgia 30281. A celebration of her life will occur at 11:00 AM in Ward's Chapel. Services will conclude with a graveside inurnment at Fairview Memorial Gardens | 164 Fairview Road Stockbridge, Georgia 30281.
