Nellie “Jean” Bryant was born on September 25, 1944, in Belle Glade, Florida. Jean was the youngest of seven children born to Ethel Mae Boyer and Isadore Lamb. Later, the family moved to Dublin, Georgia, where she graduated from Millville High School before obtaining an associate’s degree from Savannah State University. Jean was always an advocate for education and self-improvement.
Years later, Providence, Rhode Island, became her hometown, and it was here that Jean met and married Lonnie Bryant. 53 years of marriage created an unbreakable bond. Jean gave birth to a son, Stacy Bryant, and a daughter, Remi Bryant.
Jean retired from working at the Providence Housing Authority, and it was time to move back to Georgia. Ellenwood became the final move. Here she was able to reside closer to her mother, siblings, and numerous family members. Retirement didn’t last long because Jean worked for H&R Block for four years before transitioning to her own home-based business as a tax preparer.
Artistry, crafting, and wood-making were her passions. Jean’s home celebrated all of her sewing projects, artwork, and numerous wooden creations. If she saw it, she could create it.
On the afternoon of November 23, 2025, Jean (age 81) peacefully transitioned back to the loving arms of the Lord. She always kept God first and instilled faith within her children and household. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Thomas, James, Johnny Lamb, sisters Doris Lawrence and Elizabeth King, and son Stacy Bryant.
Jean seeded faith, love, realness, laughter, and creativity within those left behind to carry her light. She is survived by her husband, Lonnie Bryant; daughter, Remi Bryant (Ellenwood, Ga); sister, Yvonne Lamb-Castillo (husband Geho va Ruiz-Castillo) (Dublin, GA); sisters-in-law Sharon Bryant (husband Otis Bryant) (Ellenwood, GA), Edna Bryant (Kerens, TX); step-children; nieces and nephews; cousins; and dear friends.
A funeral service will be held at Brown Avenue Missionary Baptist Church 1481 Jonesboro Road SE, Atlanta, Georgia, December 2, 2025 at 12:00pm. Interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Gardens 164 Fairview Road, Stockbridge, Georgia, 30281.
