Peggy Grant Sconiers, known affectionately as Peggy, passed away on November 30, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on August 23, 1937, in Ellenwood, Georgia, to Robert Latimer Grant and Mary Galloway Grant, Peggy was a beloved, cherished, compassionate, and hard-working individual who touched the lives of many.
Raised in Ellenwood, Peggy graduated from Southwest DeKalb High School in Decatur, Georgia, and pursued her passion for nursing at Grady Nursing School, where she became a Registered Nurse. Her dedication to her profession led her to a 30-plus-year career at DeKalb General Hospital, also known as DeKalb Medical Center, in Decatur, where she worked as a Nursing Supervisor. During her tenure, she furthered her education by earning a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. Peggy retired in 1997, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and care.
Peggy's hobbies included sewing, cross-stitch, embroidery, and other forms of needlework. She was talented in crafts and created many beautiful Christmas ornaments, which she shared with loved ones. Peggy also enjoyed working in the yard and cutting the grass. In her later years, she and her husband, Ed, found joy in occasional trips to the casino, a pastime she continued with her son, Phil, after Ed's passing. Peggy spent her final years living with her daughter, Pam, and son-in-law, Ned, in Milner, Georgia, where she formed new friendships at local restaurants.
Peggy's family was the center of her world. She deeply loved her husband, Ed, and missed him dearly after his passing. Together, they shared a love for dancing and did everything together. Peggy was a devoted mother to her children, Pam West (Ned) and Phil Carnes (Kim), and a doting grandmother to Heather Maughon (Colin), Brooke Aguilar (Ruben), Rawlin West (Britany), Joel Crowe (Anna), Andrew Carnes (Danielle), and Josh Carnes. Her nine great-grandchildren, Thomas Maughon, Morgan Maughon, Cohen Jiles, Makayla Jiles, Alexis Aguilar, Robert Aguilar, Laiken West, Harper Carnes, and Marshall Carnes, brought her immense joy, and she cherished attending their various activities and performances.
Peggy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward L. Sconiers, her parents, Robert Latimer Grant and Mary Galloway Grant, her brother, Joseph Bowers Grant, and her sister, Sylvia Grant Kelly. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who will forever hold her memory in their hearts.
