Ron, 80, passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at Summerhill Senior Living Community in Perry, GA due to complications relating to Alzheimer’s. In the days and weeks preceding his death, he was visited by several family members who sang to him and reminisced about the fun, “good ole’ days” of his full and long life. He was able to sing a note to “Bad to the Bone” which surprised even him!!
Born July 6, 1943 in Atlanta, GA, Ron was the third child of the late Victor Claude Roberson, Sr. and Gloria Joyner Roberson. Following graduation from Gordon High School in DeKalb County, GA, he attended Anderson University in Anderson, SC and later attended Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Urban Works. Ron served in the National Guard first in the Army Reserves with the majority of his time spent in the Air Force Reserves from 1968 to 1974 and was Honorably Discharged having completed his 6 year obligation. He spent most of his career in Sales retiring from Humana.
Ron was a lifelong musician, self-taught on the piano and an accomplished vocalist. He started his musical career on stage at the age of 5 and continued throughout his lifetime initially playing in night clubs in the Atlanta area before beginning his musical ministry, playing in his church bands and visiting local prisons. His music was heavily influenced by blues artists such as Ray Charles and BB King. Ron loved playing and singing for others, and he truly connected with people through his music. Ron never met a stranger and often commented that he was blessed with the “gift of gab”, making friends wherever he went. He loved to tell jokes and make people laugh and smile.
Ron became an ordained minister, traveling to South Africa years ago with a missionary group and he was often heard quoting scripture. The joy of Ron’s life was his family. He was married to his wife, Cyntha Ellen Roberson, for 46 years. He was also a devoted father and grandfather and loved visiting with family. Some of his favorite pastimes included watching boxing or his favorite GA football team with his son and you could typically find him out on the porch in the early mornings, sipping his steaming coffee and bird-watching during the sunrise.
In addition to his wife, Ron is survived by his two daughters; Kelley Hikade of Memphis and Shelby Roberson of Orlando; his beloved grandchildren, Christian Reese Couch, Dylan Zamzow, Noel Zamzow, Chloe Willis, Abraham Wheeler, Jack Roberson, Anna Kate Roberson and Ellie Roberson; great-grandchildren, Easton Couch, Jenna Hursarcik, Kayden Husarcik, Walker Couch, Winifred Nettles and Rowena Zamzow; his daughters-in-law, Bonnie Reese and Amy Roberson; and his brother and sister-in-law, Victor C. Roberson, Jr. and Bonnie Roberson. Ron was preceded in death by his son Ronald Alexander (Lex) Roberson and his sister, Diane Shelnutt.
A celebration of Ron’s life will be held at Horis A. Ward - Fairview Chapel in Stockbridge, GA, beginning with visitation on Friday, February 23, 2024 from 12:00PM - 1:00PM. Visitation will be followed by a chapel service then a walk/ride to a graveside service. There will be a light reception at the funeral home thereafter.
