Samuel Emanuel Humphreys, Sr. was born on the beautiful island of St. John’s, Antigua to Amelia Brown and John Humphreys on May 9, 1937. He was the fourth of seven children. In the early 1960’s, he migrated to St. Croix, U.S.V.I. in search of a better life. In 1964, he met and married Irene (Serene) Nathaniel. He worked as a “jack of all trades” - carpenter, painter, stone wall builder, etc. Samuel was a calm man, never beating his children, just giving them a stern warning. He never argued, he would just walk away.
After a lengthy illness, Samuel took his last breath on March 22, 2023. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Serene; his children, Judith, Julia, Sherlene, Jonnile and Samuel, Jr.; two sisters, Genita Donovan and Priscilla “Faith” Anthony; seven grandchildren, Randy, Omar, Jamila, Keisha, Simone, Rasheeda, Rashaun; 13 great-grandchildren, Jazmin, Rachel, Elijah, Shamayah, Riley, Keanndra, Isabella, Skylar, Hailey, AveryAnn, Jailah, Jihad, Odin; nieces and nephews, too numerous to mention; and special friends, Maggie Francis, Monica Rivera, Smith, and Austin Christopher.
A visitation of family and friends will be held for Samuel on Sunday, April 16, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Ellenwood New Hope Seventh-Day Adventist Church | 3979 Panthersville Road, Ellenwood, GA 30294, followed by a celebration of his life at 12:00 Noon. Dr. Melvin Preston, officiating.
