Stella was born February 2, 1924, in the beautiful foothills town of Clermont, GA, moving to Atlanta in the 1940s. The daughter of a shaped-note singing school teacher who raised cotton and chickens to support his family of six, Stella’s first love became singing and playing the piano at all day singings and dinner on the ground. She later began singing in a trio and traveling around to different churches to sing. Graduating from Massey Business College, Stella was a professional secretary during her working years. She retired from DeKalb Medical Center and kept in touch with many co-workers and friends with her cards and pictures that she regularly sent. She also enjoyed bowling, square dancing, playing cards and was one of the best cooks you ever saw. Her smile was infectious and ever present, welcoming all with her sweet gift of hospitality.
