I will always when Star called me and wanted to surprise Debby for her 49th birthday. Debby had Multiple Sclerosis and was pretty much confined to bed. She lost her ability to walk; some cognitive skill but she was always wonderful. Star flew in to meet Debby and when she arrived on our doorstep,  I remember bringing Star into our bedroom upstairs.. At first, Debby didn't recognize her, but then, like many of the "old times" they shared, it was crystal clear who she was...her lifelong friend who had made an unbelievable moment happen by coming to visit. They basically spent the weekend-- either in our bed, both in flannel nightgowns, sharing stories and I'd  bring up meals on trays for them. This picture of both of them is at the San Clemente  pier. This is the last birthday Debby would ever have and Star was there. Was this some sort of intuition? Star didn't wait for a 50th birthday that never arrived for Debby...she showed up and something in her told her to never put off for tomorrow, that which she could and did that day. Just so Star. I'll always appreciate what she did.

Wen Debby's 96 year old mom just told be about Star's passing--it was crushing. Star has been such an important part of our lives and I always loved her Christmas letters, which kept Debby and I connected to Mike and their family. I am so sorry to see that the world has lost yet another great one...Our shining Star.

Debby kept her high school picture of Star-- and her friendship with her-- for a lifetime. They went to Awalt High School together and Debby always shared so many stories about Star when Star was a young aspiring swimmer. Debby often spoke of how dedicated Star was and how sh skipped so many parties and events to be up early at the crack of dawn to climb into the cold water and get training.

After Debby had passed away, life had to continue on, which included the marriage of my daughter. Debby not being there was a major loss and I asked Star and Jennie's godmother Toby to be the honorary Mothers of the Bride. Both lady accepted and having Star there was a true highlight.
