

Bernice HustonAug. 18, 1921 - Jan. 9, 2017 Bernice Huston, born Dieringer, passed away peacefully in Stockton, CA on January 9, 2017 at the age of 95. She is preceded in death by her husband Max, and her daughter Betty Jean and son Joseph.Bernice is survived by her children, Tom Huston of Stockton, J. Steven of Fresno, Norbert of Stockton, and Mark of Santa Barbara, 14 grand-children, and 10 great grand-children. Bernice was born August 18, 1921 in Portland, Oregon where her parents owned and operated a group of supermarkets. She married Max Huston in 1941. Upon his reactivation into the Army they were transferred to Fort Ord, for the duration of WWII. They were again transferred to the Presidio of San Francisco, and then to Stockton in 1957. Upon Max's retirement from the US Army, Bernice went to work in the real estate industry in Stockton where she became the first woman real estate broker, subsequently founding the firm of Huston Associates. She was active in the League of Women Voters, Magnolia Restoration District, one of the founders of the Stockton Art League, Director of Stockton Chamber of Commerce (1971), Citizen of the year 2001, and was very active in the Catholic Church.In retirement, Bernice pursued her interest in art, weaving and painting, as well as gardening. A Memorial Mass is scheduled for January 25th at 1:00 pm at the Cathedral of the
Annunciation in Stockton. Her brother, the Reverend James Dieringer will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Bernice's life. Services are being arranged by DeYoung Memorial Chapel. Published in The Record on Jan. 21, 2017
