I'm so looking forward to God's new world and the resurrection! Then there will be no more pain or death. (Revelation 21:3, 4) Knowing that we'll all be together again helps me to keep going.

One year ago today my dear brother David A. Orr walked on to the Spirit World. 

I cried when you passed away. I still cry today. Although I loved you dearly, I couldn't make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest. God broke my heart to prove to me he only takes the best. I miss you everyday dear brother of mine. Thank you for being there for me when I was a kid and when we aged together as adults. Yesterday was your birthday and I keep going back to conversations we have had on your birthdays over the years. I sure missed talking with you yesterday and telling you how glad I am that you were born. I feel more alone now since you are gone. We shared, we talked, we listened to each other and if we didn't agree which was rarely, we accepted each others point of view. That is such a special gift to give, that is love. I talk to people a lot and some do monologuing, they talk, I listen which I don't mind doing, but sometimes I need someone to listen too and that is what you did for me. It was a balance that we shared. I miss that and I miss you my dear father, brother Dave. I feel your presence sometimes like tonight. Happy Birthday. Rest gently. I love you.

Missing you this morning. Who would have thought that you would pass on Oct. 2nd and one month later on Nov. 2nd I would have a mild Heart Attack and Pneumonia! I can just hear your voice speaking to me last night, "it will be alright sis", then this morning, "Are you taking Co-Q-10? Then we would be off discovering natural remedies for what ails us. I miss you so much but I will see you again, you were and still are my Hero.

I wish heaven had a phone, so I could hear your voice. I thought of you today, but that is nothing new. I thought about you yesterday and days before that too. I think of you in silence, I often speak your name, but today all I have are memories and pictures of you, life will never be the same. I love you my dear brother David.

It has been 17 days since you have passed and as I write my closest friends I started to cry. I remember teasing you and saying; "You'd better stick around, don't you leave yet, we're not done!" I love you so much David, I know you are in a better place and that you fought the good fight as they say but I miss you and I always will. Thank you for the years of love and caring, giving me family that I missed out on. 

I smelled flowers while at my computer last night and remembered hearing that happens when a spirit is close to you. I'd like to believe that was you.

David was my brother  and we had some good memories of when we were first married he was a teenager and would ride his bike over to our apartment where he played cards with us and always ate all the cookies in the house , we wish we would have seen more of him  when he was older and married but the distance kept us from  that. our thoughts and prayers are with you Francis and all the children , we are sending  a card with Bill and the rest  to do what you want  we will keep you in our prayers  sister in law and Brother Jim

On Tuesday afternoon October 12,2010 the remaining family here brother's Ernest Orr, William Orr & wife Gloria, sister's Darlene (Orr) Norton, and sister Gloria (Orr) LaPine and nephew Andy Norton (son of Darlene) are getting together for a memorial lunch at the local Eagles to remember David and to celebrate his life.

Mom Confronts a Tornado!

It was May 23, 1953. I was 5 years old and my niece (Connie possibly because my sister Gloria and husband Don Pringle were living with us with their kids at that time), who was about 2-3 we witnessed what a tornado could do. This was in Port Huron MI.
My brother David A. Orr (b. 17 Dec. 1938 d. Oct. 2, 2010) was sent home from school that day due to a Tornado Warning. The sky turned an erie yellow and became very calm, Dave said you could hear a pin drop. Then the wind picked up and you could hear things hitting the house. Dave looked out of the window and saw things flying through the air! That is when he yelled at us kids to come and he took me and our niece down the old rickety stairs to the old Michigan basement, a place that scared me anyway and really scared Connie! I remember she didn't want to go but then I saw the things flying by the old back door window and I got scared so I said "Come on, we gotta go! We had a coal bin and it was dark and smelly. The wind was blowing the Rain came down in buckets and then the sound of the Train! What is that? That sound? It was so loud and scary. Everything in the house was shaking, there were things hitting it making awful noises and you could hear the old place creaking with the stress of the wind. Suddenly a loud CRASH! 
David hollered to Mom, "Ma! Get out of that bathtub and get down here to the basement, there's a Tornado!! Ma said:" I don't have time for no dam Tornado, I've gotta be to work!!
The loud CRASH we had heard was a large branch of the Old Chestnut Tree that sat in front of the house on 13th and Division. It had broken off and crashed thorough the roof and into the living room in the front of the house! I remember seeing some branches sticking through the ceiling along with a few green leaves! 
Maple Trees had been pulled right out of the ground by the Tornado. I remember seeing the tree roots as tall as a man that had been pulled right out of the ground! It was surreal. There were about three or four of them that were downed. That didn't stop our mother, she left for work still wearing her usual Spike Heels. I can still see her climbing over huge Maple Trees to get to work and a little while later I saw her climbing back over them because the Club Bar Restaurant/Lounge was closed. Mom was head cook there and I can only guess that we really needed the money so off she went through the aftermath of the 1953 Tornado. Dave told her; "You sure would have looked sweet setting in that bathtub with no house around you"!!
It took a week for the mess to be cleaned up. Gloria's husband, Don and my brothers helped with the cleanup. They brought axes and chainsaws. I still remember being tired of hearing the chainsaws, still don't like the sound of them today.
I can say that Mom's strength and determination that day gave me a gift that has carried me through many times of disaster. Thanks Mom.

May 21, 1953. An F-4 Tornado moved through Port Huron Michigan killing two people and injuring 68 others. Over 90 houses and 83 other buildings were destroyed in St. Clair County. At it's widest the tornado was nearly one mile wide.

My name is Elizabeth Caldwell, 

I am Davids baby sister. We grew up together, our other siblings were grown and gone. My brother was there for me as a child, helping to raise me while mom worked and continued to be there for me as an adult for the past 10 years since we reunited. He was more than a brother to me, he was also a father to me. I jokingly called him my Father/Brother/ Dave. He filled both of those rolls. It saddens me that we hadn't seen each other in person for many years but we spoke on the phone regularly. If he didn't hear from me he would call me and Francis would also say, "you haven't heard from your sister lately, you'd better call her". They both became an important part of my life.

I was at my youngest daughters to help with a new baby and her 3 yr old girl the week he passed and I tried to call the Physical Rehab center day after day to talk to him but they couldn't find him at first, then they connected me to his room. First thing I said which was normal for when I would track him down at a hospital was; "You can run but you can't hide from me, I'll find you!" The response was I am not hiding. As we spoke I thought, Jeez, he sounds funny, they must have him drugged up. We spoke some more and I thought, Drugs don't give you a Swedish Accent!! I asked; "Is this Dave?" The man said I could call back for Dave. Haha!! 

It was the day he passed that I finally connected with him at the Hospital. He told me then his phone wasn't working at Rehab, it wouldn't take incoming calls and he was going to ask for it to be fixed when he went back to the Rehab Ctr.  I told him the Swedish Accent story and we had a good laugh together. We talked about our mom and the Tornado Incident (I may post that story)  and he laughed. We spoke for a good 20 minutes or more, about 11:40 am CA time until just after noon when he said; I'm tired honey, I need to go. He passed withing minutes of our last visit. I feel blessed, I believe this was a gift from God so we could say good-by since I am in MI so far away. His Daughter Elizabeth was told by the nurses that he had been on the phone laughing just before he passed. I am so glad we shared a last laugh together. Thank you God. Please Bless my brother David and his family. I love you brother.
