Born April 8, 1943, Jim passed peacefully at home with his daughters and wife by his side on December 16, 2025. In his early life Jim loved the family tradition of gathering at the “ranch”. He would ride (and, crash) the tractor, enjoy hunting and basically enjoy the scenery and all of the activities and extravagant cookouts with his family and friends. Although he went on to love football, cars, water and snow skiing, diving and most of all sailing, Jim’s favorite spot was that ranch. As he grew, his passion became sailing; first on Hobie cats and then in his beloved Columbia 5.5 meter “Top Gun”. Jim loved to restore and create, he enjoyed collecting and was known widely for his obsession with perfection and organization of everything everywhere.
Married to Wendy in 1986 Jim’s happiest moments by far would be the birth of his daughters, Jillian Ann in August of 1987 and then, Chelsea Ann in March of 1989. Above all else, Jim’s greatest love and focus would be his daughters and then, when they both married their husbands Chris Clarkson (Jillian) and Patrick Sluder (Chelsea) which brought about five wonderful grandchildren. Eleanor Patricia Clarkson and Harper Ann Clarkson and Glenn Stanley Sluder, Dylan Jo Sluder and, Andi Rae Sluder. Jim’s love of and pride over the daughters, son-in-law’s and grandchildren met no bounds and kept him happier and at peace during all of his best and, trying times.
Blessed with the opportunity to travel with his family when they were young to many wonderful destinations coupled with time spent in the new home in Tahoe brought genuine peace to Jim in recent years. Participating in the Wooden Boat Show in Tahoe and winning many times over delivered the acknowledgement he deserved on his perseverance of perfection. The chocolate Labrador retrievers in Jim’s life were a huge part as well including his most recent, (CoCo) Bear and Buddy Boy.
Jim was preceded in death by his mother (Dorothy Ann Coddington) and father (Philip K. Coddington), several aunts and uncles (including his and Glenn’s namesake Stanley Harris) and many of his closest friends including Bud Goold with whom he enjoyed the ranch, fly fishing and watching Bud’s sons grow into amazing and highly respected men. He leaves behind his wife, daughters, grandchildren, sister (Carol Ann Coddington), sister and brother-in-law, John and Patricia Whittaker, nephew (John Holler/Sarah) and niece (Carrie Ann Holler), Nephews Ross Thomson (Rachel), James MacNair/Heather and Niece Emma Diaz/Derrick and, many cousins, his Aunt Norma and so many loyal friends who helped him through the good times at the ranch and, recent trials including the Sage brothers, Gary Ghan, Nelson Bahler and Henry Bettencourt.
A celebration of life will be planned at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in Jim’s memory.
