Josephine age 79, passed the evening of January 15 at Oasis Memory Care, Stockton California. She was born May 6 1940 in Rodarte, Taos, New Mexico to parents Leandro Esquibel and Maria Eufelia Gallegos.
She was preceded in death by her Parents Leandro and Maria. Husbands Emmitt Leland Lund and Erskin Ray Horton. Brothers Anthony Coultress, Louie Coultress, Jimmie Coultress and Greg Esquibel. She is survived by her only child Michael Emmitt Lund. Grandchildren Bryan Michael Lund and Erin Renee Lund. Daughter in law Dot Lund, step daughter Reyes Horton. Brothers Levi Esquibel, Edward Coultress, Michael Esquibel and Pete Esquibel. Sisters Sadie Esquibel-Hawkins, Priscilla Esquibel-Sais, Johlynda Silva and her devoted pup Little Girl.
Josephine graduated in 1957 from Central Catholic High School, Taos New Mexico. After graduation she relocated to Albuquerque New Mexico where she was employed by Nazareth Sanatorium. During a visit to California she would meet her future husband Emmitt Lund. This would eventually lead to her relocating to California, marrying November 7th 1959 and giving birth to her son Michael Oct 1962. After becoming widowed Nov 1975, she would overcome her loss to become very strong and independent taking care of Michael and herself. Her greatest joy however was the birth of her grandchildren Bryan and Erin. They were now her world and she loved them more than anything. She would not remarry until May 1999 when she married Ray Horton. She enjoyed her home, her church, taking care of her dogs, feeding her wild birds and tending to her flowers.
Josephine was not only a beautiful loving wife, mother and grandmother but a God fearing, hard working, intelligent woman who made a career in the health industry. At retirement she was director of Addus Home Health Care dealing with San Joaquin County and the private sector. She was a strong and caring woman. She took care of her family unconditionally until her illness required that we now care for her in the same loving and unconditional way. We should all be forever grateful for having her in our lives. Until we meet again, we will love and miss her dearly.
