With heavy hearts and deep love, we announce the passing of Ludivico De Leon Viray (Lodi). He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. True to his Faith as an Iglesia Ni Cristo Deacon, Lodi entered eternal rest on July 7, 2025, at the age of 79.
Born on January 3, 1946, in the Philippines to Consuelo De Leon and Ernest Viray, Lodi was the eldest of ten siblings. In the late 1960s, he immigrated to the United States alongside his parents and siblings, becoming part of a courageous first-generation Filipino-American family determined to build a better future. The San Francisco Bay Area became their new home. In 1973, they faced unimaginable devastation when they lost both of their parents in a tragic car accident. As the eldest, Lodi inherited the role of Patriarch of the Viray Family, helping to raise and guide his younger siblings along with his first wife, Leticia Manuel Viray, with steadfast love, sacrifice, strength, and commitment. His resilience during that time became a defining testament to his character and fortitude. He was fearless in his convictions and never hesitated to defend and care for his family, going through great lengths to keep them safe and together. Even during his final days, he reminded them through his relentless temperament of his position in the family, instilling the values of respect and home.
Lodi was the proud father to Arlene, Audrey, Aimee, and Ludivico Jr. (JR), his children from his first marriage to Leticia. His greatest joys were found in his grandchildren: Alexa, Madison, Haille, Elijah, Eyzin, and Maverick. He now joins his beloved 1st grandchild, Adrius and 6th grandchild, Alison, in eternal peace and paradise. He also reunites in Heaven with his adored parents: Ernest (Tatay) and Consuelo (Inda), as well as his dear siblings: Melchor, Filipinas, Evangeline (Baby), Aristotle (Boy), and Socrates (Soc). His remaining siblings are Rosario (Chit), Charlemagne (Charlie), Democrates (Dem) and Alexander (Alex).
In 2001, he married his current wife Lilibeth Deguzman Viray (Beth) and began their path of devotion and dedication to the Iglesia Ni Cristo Faith (INC). Their life was anchored in reverence for their faith and belief in the True Church of Christ. Lodi and Beth served the church together with deep allegiance and humility. A man of profound faith, Lodi was a devout Deacon of the INC and an esteemed Officer of the Society of Communicators and Networkers (SCAN). His life was deeply rooted in his worship for God the Father, and his spiritual duties brought light and inspiration to those around him. He was humble and always placed his service to the Church and his Brethren above all. Lodi was a constant source of vigor to everyone who had the blessing of being touched by him.
In his prime, Lodi had an entrepreneurial mindset and was always in pursuit of the next best business venture. Many would remember him as a charismatic storyteller, jokester and passionate debater, especially at lively family gatherings. He had a love for all things food, cooking all cuisines and dining out. Lodi was athletic and energetic, earned a black belt in karate, and had a passion for basketball, arnis and golf. He was also a car enthusiast and enjoyed boating trips on the Delta with his family. He loved early morning crabbing in the SF Bay, fishing with his grandchildren in his backyard, road trips and watching boxing, basketball and football. He found joy in traveling, especially his trips back to the Philippines, indulging in cruise vacations and various explorations around the world.
Lodi’s legacy is one defined by his Faith, Family, Respect, Sacrifice, Tenacity, Pride and Heart. He was respected for his bravery and profound wisdom, fighting spirit and as the protector of his family. He led with quiet but powerful dignity and a deep love that left an everlasting impression on those who connected with him. Though he now rests in eternal peace, his legacy will continue to live on through his children, grandchildren and the generations to come. He will be deeply missed, lovingly cherished, and forever honored as a true Servant of God.
