Coach Milani was wonderful and special man in my life, he coached me in Little League during the late 60's and early 70's.  I played for him on the Redbirds and Pirates along with his son Paul.  Very sorry for your loss, he will always be in my heart forever.  God Bless Mario and your family.

I met Mario early on in my Career with SCS/NRCS.  As a new Engineer starting work in 1975 Mario made me feel welcome and always offered friendly, helpful advice and guidance as I progressed in my different job assignments throughout the early part of my career.   We later worked closely together when we were both on the Engineering staff in Davis CA.  We enjoyed working together on Watershed Projects to address long term flooding problems and also Emergency Watershed Protection projects, designing, contracting and construction of critical work necessary after flood and fire Disaster projects to protect life and property.   At that point he was our State Construction Engineer and Mario was an expert at making sure plans and Specifications were clear and concise, critical to minimize problems during the contracting and construction phase of getting our work done.  His assistance in the field on construction sites was also outstanding to make sure jobs were progressing well with minimal problems.  At one point I was blessed to have Mario working on my design staff when my staff provided design assistance to a regional area outside California that included watershed work in the Pacific Basin.  His work was always at the highest standard and much appreciated.   We developed a lifelong friendship and it was wonderful to get to know his family, particularly his wonderful wife Virginia and son Paul.  After his retirement Mario and I enjoyed working together to coordinate monthly lunches for California retirees to get together and enjoy time together again.  Mario Loved people and people that knew him loved him as well.  My thoughts and prayers go out to Virginia and all his family.  Mario will certainly be missed but never forgotten.

I first met Mario in 1995 when I transferred to Davis to work on the West Design Technical Team with him and another group of the best engineers in NRCS. I remember him letting me borrow his Hank Williams Sr greatest hits CD and seeing all the cool glass balls he collected on display in his work area. I enjoyed many talks with him outside the state office while on break and hearing about all the cool projects he worked on in California. A cut glass bowl he and his wife gave us when we were married sits on the counter in our kitchen. RIP Mario.

I was first introduced to Mario in 1966 when I was just a new part-time SCS'er but specifically remember how well upper management talked about his abilities and skills to get projects in on time.  Later in my SCS career Mario and I worked closely on design reviews and construction issues.  I remember how you could always count on him to be a problem solver and very practical at the same time.  I truly enjoyed the association and particularly, his friendship.  Thanks for all those years and my prayers go out to you and your family.

It was my great pleasure to work with Mario for a number of years.  He was a fine engineer but his real skill was how well he treated others and his perennially cheerful disposition.  He will be missed.
