Mildred E. Tucker

October 4, 1921 - December 13-2018

Mildred Elizabeth Sweeney Tucker passed away on December 13, 2018 after a brief illness at age 97 at home in Stockton, California with family at her side. She was born in La Habra, California to Mary Katheryn Yeckley Sweeney and Albert Joseph Sweeney. She married John (Jack) Wardrop Tucker in 1944 in Seattle where she was working as a chemist. They were married for 55 years until his death in 1999.

Mildred’s family moved to the Sacramento area when she was young and they settled in Freeport where her father farmed and had a business. She went to Clarksburg High School and graduated from Oregon State University with a degree in Home Economics. With her insatiable curiosity, she acquired her real estate license and tax preparation certificate in order to facilitate understanding pertinent laws. Mildred was an avid letter and memoir writer, investor, news follower, and storyteller. She had a wide circle of friends and an active life.

Mildred was involved in many civic and religious organizations, considered volunteer work an important part of her life, and was the recipient of numerous awards.

She is survived by her children: Michaela Elizabeth Tucker (Don Geiger), Mary Alene Gibbs (Steve), Adele Irene Thomas, John Robert Tucker (Gail Gulick-Tucker); grandchildren Jason Tucker Geiger (Renee Yang), Heather Lindsey Geiger, Christina Tucker Gibbs Bolin (Michael), Jonathan Paul Gibbs (Analiese), Peter Anthony Gibbs, Joseph Warren Thomas (Angela), John Nairn Thomas (Lori), Jenny Rebecca Thomas Berti (Ryan), Mattea Anne Thomas Giles (Wayne), Nicole Giometti Tucker Gerbrandt (John), Erika Marie Tucker, John Jedidiah Tucker, Ashea Dawn Tucker; step-grandchildren John Wesley Gulick (Jill), Adam Leong Gulick (Sandra); great-grandchildren: Mica June Geiger, Julia Ray Geiger, Edward Santiago Bolin, Maria Immaculata Bolin, Joseph Ignatius Bolin, Benedict Karl Bolin, Logan Nairn Thomas, Bryson Steele Thomas, Jessica Rae Thomas, Cody Nairn Thomas, Chase James Thomas, Caitlin Sinead Foust, Kreada Siobahn Foust, Juniper Tigerlily Giles, Adelaide Ann Gerbrandt, Emmeline Ruby Gerbrandt, Jaxon Clay Tucker; step-great grandchildren Matthew Thomas Gulick and Ryan Joseph Gulick; nephews John Steven Sweeney, Phillip Frederick Johnson, William Johnson and niece Joann Marie Johnson; and extended family Leeann Mendoza and numerous nieces and nephews of John W. Tucker.

She is predeceased by parents Mary and Albert Sweeney, husband John Wardrop Tucker, brother John Oscar Sweeney, sister Mary June Sweeney Johnson, brother William Hathaway Sweeney, son Patrick Alan Tucker, daughters-in-law Ann Giometti Tucker and Lynette Duncan Tucker Mendoza, sons-in-law Thomas Calnan Ostrander and Thomas Nairn Thomas, grandchild Kelly James Thomas, and great-grandchild Thomas Bonaventure Bolin.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Church of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary at 10 am on December 21 at 1515 W Benjamin Holt Dr, Stockton, CA 95207. Vigil will be 7 pm on December 20 at DeYoung Memorial Chapel, 601 N California Street, Stockton, CA 95202. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Church of the Presentation or St. Mary's Dining Room.
